An Eye For Detail

I recently participated in a presentation about the need and role of Business Analysts in my organization. We are a mid-sized company and we dont have have many BA’s. The usual practice is to have developers or leaders performing that role, at least to some extent. That has to change now and the presentation was an attempt by the management to spark interest and awareness in the team, especially with the leaders who must understand why he/she needs a BA onboard so as to demand for one in every one of their projects.

The role of BA in a project begins from initiation and lasts throughout the life of the project. In my opinion, the BA must own the requirements phase, supervise the design phase, be a consultant for the coding phase and perform UAT in the testing phase. The BA is responsible for eliciting requirements which is the most important and crucial phase of a project because success or failure depends on how well the project is scoped. A skilled BA can set the project up for success even before the project charter is out.

The following clip is an awareness test from YouTube. If you an aspiring BA, this is a sort of training to evaluate if you have an eye for detail. If you pass this test, you are no doubt one of the best. So, go ahead and watch this video now.

Aren’t you amazed? I thought so. So maybe you are not the best but here is the good news – business analysis is probably easier. Good Luck!
