I got my first car when I was in college. I used it for 20 days and then I crashed it into a truck. On the highway. High speed collision. Yup! I had to sell it as scrap metal.
My second car was brand new. I used it for 2 yrs and then decided that I must sell it. Why? Coz it was a small car with no power steering. So I traded my small new car for a mid-size used car with power steering. That’s when I got my first FIAT. What an amazing car! It had a turbo diesel engine, fully loaded, alloy wheels, a spoiler – the works. However, I had my share of troubles with it but I dont think thats unusual when you buy a used car. I knew I had to do some work on it. The usual stuff like replacing both the arms, the clutch plate, rear shock absorbers, both the arms again… and all 4 tires with new tubeless tires. Yup! the usual stuff.
Today I drive a FORD – my first auto transmission car. I got it at a good price – I think. It checked out on CARFAX so that was enough to convince me coz I was in desperate need of a car. I had just moved to the US and did not want to spend all my car loan on taxi fares. Maybe my friends would agree that I got a good car at a good price – if it did not have 140k miles on it. That freaked them out which made me guilty and scared. But then I already bought it. Its too late to cry about it. It was the best option I had. So, I convinced myself that given the circumstances I had made the right choice. My ford and I lived happily ever after.
…but ‘ever after’ had a 1 month expiry on it.
